Movie Review Sample ”The Lorax”

Sustainability is a primary concept within the film ”The Lorax,” however, the word itself can be perceived in many ways, specifically, the film depicts sustainability to be the ability to maintain human needs, and avoid depletion of natural resources to sustain the earth’s balance. The sources critical stance is evidently shown as the film focuses on how necessary resources could be destroyed to the point of no return, causing severe damage to how we live our lives. In order to fully understand the perspective of the source, we must note that the world is currently facing many problems such as deforestation, pollution, and global warming, in correlation to this, the film shows the treacherous impact these problems have. Based on the perspective of the film, we can assume the source would value arable land, which can help maintain a habitat that provides prosperity for all life forms. Since the source values many environmental concepts people such as Elizabeth May, the leader of the Green Party Canada who also takes on the role of a well-known environmentalist, would stand behind the message of the source regarding a sustainable habitat. I believe society should fully embrace the perspective of “The Lorax,” due to the unhealthy effects that damage the earth’s sustainability more and more every day.Sustainability is a primary concept within the film ”The Lorax,” however, the word itself can be perceived in many ways, specifically, the film depicts sustainability to be the ability to maintain human needs, and avoid depletion of natural resources to sustain the earth’s balance. I believe society should fully embrace the perspective of “The Lorax,” due to the unhealthy effects that damage the earth’s sustainability more and more every day. With the idea of sustainability in mind, “The Lorax” demonstrates the environmental effects that will occur if entrepreneurs, capitalists, and large corporations continue to value profit over the earth’s sustainability and prosperity. As a society, we need to change our values if we wish to continue living a lifestyle that can provide for all inhabitants of the earth. A step towards such change would include pushing private business to no longer neglect the environment and rather focus on it considering, it accumulates profit. Specifically, “The Lorax” shows the concept of deforestation, which is being recognized in today’s society for the adverse effects it has on many species habitats, protection, and for its impact on the food chain. If we continue supporting the decrease in nature, we will begin to lose places to grow food, which will spike inflation prices exponentially. We will also see a drop in air quality as there will be fewer trees replenishing, and recycling the air, which will have major effects on many citizens. With the reduction of major resources affecting life, we will also see an effect on the future economy too.If we don’t change the pattern of using and not replacing resources, it will cause turmoil in the economy, due to the fact that there is a limited supply of natural goods. The effect that the major reduction of natural resources has on the environment is detrimental, but we can also see the negative effects it has on the economy currently. For example, in Canada, there is a shortage of oil, which has caused gas prices to spike, and the stability of the economy to drop. If we don’t reduce our usage of natural resources, we will see the negative effect of oil be mirrored in the effect of other resources that have also been noticeably lowered in quantity. Not only will prices of products be increased, but there will also be a stall in the creation of new and innovative products because the availability of resources will be lowered. If we want to have an economy that can flourish and move forward in the future, then we must change what is occurring now in regards to profitable resources that are disappearing. Many people will argue that the strive for a significant change is not necessary because everything we need will naturally grow back anyway. However, this is not true because of the resource gap.
The resource gap is the gap between what the earth can reasonably supply and what the world consumes. At the rate we are using materials the resource gap continues to get more substantial. Currently, the gap is too big to be fixed without human interference, which is why we need to see a change in the number of resources being consumed. If no change takes place, we will reach a point of no return for many materials that we need to survive. Considering the many negatives that occur with the destruction of resources, it is crucial that we, as a society, share the perspective of “The Lorax,” in order to maintain the sustainability of the earth. It is essential to embrace this issue if we want to see a stable economic future, and possibly an improved one. On top of that, it is also morally correct to prevent harm to animals considering the earth is providing a sustainable environment for them, which also allows them to prosper. The issues brought up in “The Lorax,”  pertain to the previous points because the film shows how total dependence on a natural resource can ruin an economy. The film also shows the negative effects of things such as deforestation and how it exterminates all life forms and beauty from the earth. In order to have a prosperous life and economy, we must allow the earth to be sustainable for all life forms of life which is why we need to change the rate at which we use natural resources.
